Come Out & Play, Child, Come Out and Play~....Part 2 BY -D-

(for those who didn't get it, the title's a reference to the Grundel from the Ghostbusters cartoon. now, for the (season?) finale....)

so a whole month passes by since the incident, and all is right with the world for my little sister, whom gets ridiculed at for getting scared by a few cute, cuddly caged rabbits by my mother. sun was shining, monsoon season kinda died down, and i'm trying to sneak a peek at porn in my older sister's room, the only place with a working computer and internet connections at the time.

let's just forget about any form of transition in this writing and get to the point; so, one night, my little sister went to my older sister's room to surf the net, alone, while the older sister was elsewhere. now her (older sis) room lies exactly on top of my little sister's room, and has a window that directly looks out to the grass field as well, along with the single tree with vines beyond the fence. it was a more quieter and calmer night this time around, but that didn't stop history from repeating itself. i was heading up the stairs, to see if there's something to eat at my parent's room, when lo and behold, my little sister running out of my older sis's room screaming and crying, this time, uninjured since the door was open. i was the first to be there to asked her what happened, as others came out of their room, including my older brother.

as she was surfing the net, she heard the window shaking. at first, she shrugged it off as the wind when the shaking then kept going at a continuous pace. it took her awhile to notice that something was knocking the window from outside. she stared at the window, the curtains closed, hoping that it was maybe just a cat. then, very clearly, she heard her name being called out slowly by the shaky sound of a little girl.

after hearing this, my brother, the wanna-be hero, rushed into the room and opened the window. i was just outside the room by the door, and even from there, i could smell the strong stench coming in as my brother slides the window open, while nothing was there. from then onwards, for awhile my sister always kept the door to her room or any other room she's in open, and at night, it wasn't strange for anyone to see her running out of a room, sobbing and into my parent's room. every now and then, late at night when she's asleep in her room, she'd hear a knocking from her window (if you remember, it also looks out to the grass field/ tree with vines), followed with a voice calling out her name. this continued for a week or two, when the name calling stopped and only the knocking occurred. over time, my little sis came over it and just ignored it when it happened.

it was somewhat funny when i found out that "it" was also knocking the window to my older sis's room whenever she's in there since she shared a striking resemblance to my little sis. though in her case, she ignored it since day one. from then on, every once in awhile, the windows to both my older and younger sister's would be knocked at late at night as they sleep. not long after, "it" stopped knocking at my older sis's room, supposedly knowing the difference between the two. this went on for months non-stop, and over that time, my mother, whom slept in the room to keep my little sister company have heard it, and two of my older sis's friend, who slept over her room have heard it before it stopped harassing her. my parent's only advice was to ignore it and hope it to go away.... which they realized did not work half a year later as my little looked a bit more miserable than usual. they brought in a medium, apparently, despite the fancy smelling oil rub and rituals, it offered no help. it was then my grandmother, at her daughter's (my mom) request that she bought home an old friend of hers; an old, supposedly experienced medium.

i wasn't there when they performed whatever it was they were performing (busy; Video Games), but it ended up with a small red pot containing a small tree stump being placed at the corner of both my older and younger sister's room the very next day. i also happened to listen in on the convo between the medium and my parents. apparently, the one disturbing my sister was the ghost of a little girl, who was of the same age as hers and looked EXACTLY like her, only whiter. the tree that i mentioned, the one with the vines was where she usually hangs out. her reason for the harassment; to have my sister to "play" outside with her. and if you've watched a lot of horror movies, this just basically translates as sucking my sister's soul or something, to my parents.

(P.S: to phrase Porky Pig, "Th-th-th-that's all folks!". well, i knew i had loads to tell but not as much as 30+, though most are from friends and other member's of my family. with so much happenings around me, it shouldn't be big a surprise to some of you that i'm as scared of ghosts as much as i am scared of the huge wild boar that roams my place (i.e; not very much). sure, my heart will start beating fast, but as long as i keep my calm and do nothing stupid (i.e: my older brother if you've read this far), i'll most likely get off unscathed.

now then, i'm hoping this will be your turn to contribute a story. it doesn't HAVE to be true. not all those stories you read in Singapore True Ghost Stories were true. some were just made-up fillers. Yes, true stories are preferable (it's what i've done so far), but it's not like made-up stories can't be scary, just as long as they are believable (i.e "a headless figure roaming Jerudong Park" vs. "your fight with a Snoop Dogg looking ghost that you defeated using that magic skull dagger you happened to find"), though keep it a secret if it's true or not. heck, some of mine, like the one about DST HQ, which was from a friend wasn't believable. ask a friend about ghost stories they know and post it here. for the brave ones who want to ghost hunt, based on the locations of my posts as well as other stories; 1) places with a body of water (lakes, swamps, waterfalls) nearby; 2) hilly areas. so contribute. as AB said "Have you got much better stories to tell ?", and it never said it has to be true (again that would be VERY preferable))

Come Out & Play, Child, Come Out & Play~..... Part 1 BY -D-

as one enters my little sister's room, located on the ground floor, you'll come face to face to a wide window, looking directly out to the grass field, and a tree covered with vines. to your right, outside on the corner of the window, you'll find a small pot, containing an unimpressively small plant made up of only it's stump....

late 2004, long before the STPRI incident (so don't you dare compare that with this), when my sister was only 14 years of age, my grandma had to take an emergency surgery in KL, and my parents, worried about the outcome, decided to go as well, leaving only me and my 4 other siblings, and the maids to take care of the house. also take note we had a rabbit cage back then, located outside, just underneath my parents bedroom.

that year, we had just started subscribing to Kristal/Astro, so while the parents were away, my sister frequented their room, which at the time had both of it's light bulb broken, to watch TV, since that was the only place in the house with a decoder. it was around 11 pm, and it was the monsoon season, so strong winds were blowing at the time. and need i remind you our place was located between two steep hills, making an eerie sound as the storm was about to start.

feeling thirsty at the time, i made my way to my parent's room upstairs, maybe to steal some juice from their fridge. not three steps up the stairs, i heard the sound of a door banged open, loud sobbing and moaning, and another bang as my sister stormed out of the master bedroom, crying and hit herself on one of the wooden wardrobe. she sat there on the floor, crying and then screaming hysterically as my older sister held her in her arms, all the while bleeding from the elbow and her head after hitting the door and wardrobe respectively. what happened?

my sister was watching tv at my parents' room alone in the dark, as the wind outside began to pick up speed. it started off with the usual eerie howl, which she was already used to. later on, there was another sound that mixed in with the wind, one that sounded like a high pitched, shaky "eeeEEeeeEeeEEEee~". not long afterwards, she heard the voice of a girl repeatedly calling her name, which came from the door leading to the veranda which was 3-4 metres right in front of her. after she had ran out, i entered the room and went out the veranda to take a look. it may have been my imagination, but despite the strong winds, i swear i could smell the faint scent of something sweet.

when my parents got home and heard the story, they explained the sound may have came from the rabbits we were keeping, since they always made those "eeeEEeeeEeeEEEee~" noises during cold nights, and that my sister was just imagining her name being called. this put her at ease, until of course this fact was proven wrong. that potted plant i mentioned has it's role..... in part 2 and my final story.....

Rosemary's Baby BY -D-

funny thing here is my sister-in-law's nick name IS Rose. okay, maybe not Rosemary, but it's still pretty close....

early February of 2008. as i went to the kitchen to grab a late night drink, i noticed the lights to the living room were still brightly lit up. my brother had had a guest over, a scene quite rare especially at that hour (it was 2+ AM, me thinks). i had thought the other guy was an old friend of his, and they were just re-living the good old days when they were younger, spending the later hours of the night hangin' and chillin', with no worries of getting enough sleep to get them through work the next day. then i heard the word "bayangan". so i eavesdropped to find out more;

more than a week earlier, my brother and his wife were terrorized by the sudden repetitive sound that came from their bedroom window, making them lose some sleep. the culprit; a black crow, who kept pecking at the window, which, you guessed it, was facing the grass field. now this wouldn't be much of a problem if it was just some pesky crow with some obsessive-compulsive drive to peck at the window every night, however, the fact that his wife seemed to wake up from a nightmare, sweating, exactly before the crow would start pecking the window, and that the pecking would start at around the same time every night made my brother a bit TOO worried. he tried to scare the crow away by banging on the window; it just perched there staring back at my brother, as if he's mocking him even. it wasn't until he'd open the window that it would fly away. and every time he shooed it away, it went in the very same direction, into the darkness of the grass field.

as for my sister-in-law's nightmare, the one she wakes up to before the crow starts pecking the window? the first couple of nights, she can't exactly recall the dream, but they were definitely the same ones. on around the fourth night, she could finally remember what it was; she would dream that she was sleeping in the room, alone, at night, when she'd suddenly wake up, the window opening on it's own at the same time, while the crow, which was larger in her dream would perch there, staring at her. it would then spread it's wings, which were large in her dreams, as if it was going to engulfed her. before it did, she'd always hear a deep, thundering voice that commanded her to hand her son over to "him". only problem is, they have no son. now, as i've mentioned, if all this had happened only once, heck, twice at most, this would have all been just a coincidence. but all this 11 nights in a row, it's not pretty strange for someone who's heavily as superstitious as my brother to go find a medium after the third night. the whole ordeal left his wife weak and tired, vomiting the next day after it had happened.

it took a little while for him to find a medium with his connections, but the night i went for a drink was the night they had just finished cleaning up the problem. it wasn't two days later my brother told my parents what happened, along with the big news they had. what supposedly happen, based on the medium's report, was that a something, an unknown being, was stalking my sister-in-law. it originally came from the hills next to my sister-in-law's parents house and followed her to my place when she came back, and was of notable high rank among it's kind. one other characteristic that made a problem for the medium dealing with "it" was that it was a giant of some sort; it was taller than our two storey house. the crow that came pecking their windows was a messenger of sort asking his wife to hand over her son, one they didn't have, to "it" who was hiding in the forest beyond the grass field.

and their other news to my parents? my sister-in-law was pregnant. months later, we would find out that it was gonna be a boy.....

(next story will be a two-parter, and the last of my stories)

BY -D-

"eh. si 'K' balik jua udah, kan?" asked my older sister, as i made my way from my room to my parents' room upstairs to grab some grub, passing the living room where she sat down in the dark. i've seen my sister mad, confused, and many other expressions that normally requires a person to be so wide-eyed. in that particular moment, i guessed "freaked out" describe her expression best.

'K' was our former driver/gardener. if there's one easy way to describe him, it'd be VERY tall and lanky. think Shaggy (not the singer), only taller, and less hippy. other notable features would be the fact he always wear a white tee as his work clothes as he goes around with his business on the front yard. now enough about him, on to the time of the incident;

one December evening of last year, after 7 pm, bored and with nothing better to do, my older sister lounged around the living room, chatting with her friends on MSN via her cellphone, while facing towards the window looking out of the front lawn. trying to relax her eyes for a bit after staring into the screen for too long in the dark, she looked up in front her and through the warped glass brick right next to the main entrance, saw a tall white figure passed by. she saw it again through the window overlooking the front lawn, making it's way towards the tool shed, found near the back close to the large (haunted) grass field. now at first glance, she didn't think much of it as her first impression was that "K" was just finishing some stuff up. then she remembered how a few days prior that i sent "K", my mother, and herself to the airport to send him off (she wanted to stop by elsewhere afterwards, and her car was in the workshop). one other detail worth mentioning was that the figure had quite an eerie white glow, and that white part was way too long to be a t-shirt of any sort as it extended way past the waist.

as she came to realize all this, i had just came out of my room, ready to cook something up.

well, the next story is gonna be just as weak and unscary as this one, considering that i'm pretty much near the end of the road here....

The Neighbour's Tale Numero Duo BY -D-

same neighbor here, also told during raya that same year.

on one early morning, at around 4 am, our neighbor had just came home after a long, hard night of work. no thanks to his luck, not only did he get the night shift that day, he had to stay at his work place a lot longer than he had to because of a predicament that needs to be fixed (ok, so i wasn't there when he told this story. my sister told me this later on, and she didn't get much of the details. something about him being an engineer). dead tired and just about ready to keel over, anywhere, anytime, he put the effort to head upstairs to his bedroom, after thinking twice whether to hit the couch or not.

he entered his room, left the door open (security is the least of your problem when you're dead (*heehee*) tired), and belly flopped on his bed. he lied there for awhile before he decided to turn around in a more comfortable position. as he turned, he caught a glimpse of the silhouette of a little boy just by the door. alarmed, he stood up, and as soon as he did, the figure made a run for it to the stairs. without even thinking twice, despite the creepy feeling he had in his gut, for no apparent reason, he gave chase. as he made his way down the stairs, he saw the "boy", at the bottom of the stairs, made a right turn behind a wall and into the living room, which also leads to the main entrance. as he entered the living room; silence.

the boy was nowhere to be found in the living room, nor did he hear the main entrance being unlocked and opened when the boy ran for it. considering there was no where else for the boy to run from there, the freakiness of all this finally sunk in o him. no, people, this was no dream sequence. the guy somehow managed to stay up till around 7, when he finally thought it was safe to sleep. later that afternoon, as per the neighbor's suggestion, he went out to buy some frames with verses from the Quran.

.....Bukit Sebanging! Ep 2 BY -D-

Located somewhere along Jln Muara, mention this area to any old timer, and you'll likely to get these 2 replies: "oh, yang tampat bukit lintang pukang selapas *********** atu?" and/or "tampat yang banyak berhantu atu?". (i'm being very vague here for privacy reasons)

our current home is located right at the base of the hill (maaaaayyyyy-be. again, privacy), at the dead end of a simpang. on one side, is the aforementioned hill, glorified with various tall trees and shrubs, on the other another smaller hill. remarkably, the one common thing this home shares with the previous one is that, to your left if your facing the main entrance, beyond the fence, also beyond the dead end i mentioned earlier, is a vast, grassy field (a supposedly haunted one i might add). only difference being that there are more trees here, and beyond the field is a small pond, beyond that, a swamp.

back in 2000, everyday after 5.30, right before Legend of the Condor Heroes aired on TV3 at 6, i tend to jog back and forth from the dead end of the simpang to the entrance as my means of exercise, since being in form 4, there were no longer P.E classes to keep me fit (not that it prevented me from being a fat slob). this resulted in me having thighs of steel in less than six months. now? just some mushy muscles. no, not because i got lazy. so what happened?

some time around June/July of that year, on a Sunday evening, i decided to take a day off from jogging. it was way past 6.30 when my niece, chauffeured by her aunt, came back from a trip. the aunt, the older sis to my sister in law and looking awfully pale at the time, asked if she could stay for awhile. with my sister in law keeping her company, and me, at the dining room, eating and eavesdropping, she asked the question that would ultimately stopped me from ever jogging again.... till March of '08 ; "Knapa ni eh? pucat jua mua mu atu". as it turns out, awhile back, just as she entered our simpang, she saw a figure cloaked in white, and a face obscured with long hair, fly out of the sliding door off the balcony of one of the neighbor's house, and into the thick forest on top of the hill. my niece, being less than 3 years old and knowing nothing, found this amusing. her aunt, on the other hand, experienced 5 seconds worth of pure fright, and panic afterward. the very next day, words through the grapevine has it that when the incident happened, the owner of the house was out. once he came back, he noticed the balcony's slide door was wide open. fearing he just got robbed, he rushed upstairs to his room. as he climbs the stairs, he could sense a faint pungent smell coming from his room. as he opened the door, the smell of rotten corpse was greatly overpowering, and his room in a big mess. hence, he slept over at another neighbors home for 4 days till he got the place "cleaned" up.

as for me, aside from never jogging again for a long time, that day when i heard this, i asked my dad in the rarest of cases, very rudely: "What kind of crazy-a*s luck do you have when choosing a home? or are you doing this all on purpose?"

Cry me a river~... of BLOOD! Ep 1 BY -D-

and now, the final story on our Sg. Akar home, and it's magnum opus. over at our place, when a dog howls at the dead of night, it's never a good sign for us. nowadays at our current place, this seldom happens, and when it does, the whole house basically just freezes in silent (made apparent one night when my sisters, old and young, made a ruckus late at night, and suddenly shut up when a howl came).

mid 98', 3.00 AM. at the exact time, my mother was awaken by the neighbour's dog sudden howling. for the five years we had stayed there, it was pretty normal for them to roam around and bark to the point of annoyyance. but never had they howled as loud and as long as they did that night and the nights to come. mom simply just ignored all this, and went back to sleep.

3.15 AM, she was still awaked, no thanks to the non-stop howling, until at that exact time, it just stopped. and just as soon as it stopped, she heard the faint sound of crying, one that seemed to had came from a girl. at the time, my brother and the missus had just popped one out of the oven months earlier, so the first thing that came to my mother's mind was that her grand-daughter crying. didn't take her long enough to realise, after bearing eight children, that not only was it not the cry a baby would make , it came from the opposite direction of my brother's room. it was the cry, as my mom described, "a 7+ year old girl would make, kinda like how your (little) sisters would cry everytime you do something to them". as for my sisters, they were sound asleep right next to my mother.

the crying continued as she headed downstairs, and my brother, coming out of his room, flash light ready. the source of the sound came from the direction of the back door, towards the large field next to our house. y'know, the one i keep mentioning in my stories lately? an open field consisting of medium length grass, and trees sporadically spread out (at the time)? anyways, the two went out of the back door, and from there, the crying was a lot more clearer. my brother flashed the light down towards the field (just beyond the fence is a steep downward slope to the field), hoping maybe it was one of the neighbour's daughters stranded outside, but the rows of trees in front of him blocked his view. he tried calling out to "her", to my mother's dismay. no replies, except the continued crying. he tried a couple more times; still nothing but the crying. he attempted to go out the back gate, down the slope, and into the field, but my mother stopped him, upon her better judgement. then, an eerie, shaky voice startled them from behind....

"Iiiiibuuu...uu...."

it was the maids, who were awaken by the crying, pale and terrified. their room was nearby, an extension to the house made accessible only by going outside of the main house first. my mom then told everyone to ignore the cries and to just go back to sleep (the maids, of course, asked if they could sleep in the living room). if anyone was out there,it would be best to ask the neighbours the following day.

the following day: after inquiring about the incident with the neighbours, they found no one could have been there at the time. from that day onwards, for the next year or so, the incident repeated itself, at the same time, at the same place, 2-3 times a week. at 3 AM, the dogs would howl non-stop for 15 minutes, and as soon as they did, at 3.15AM, the cries of a little girl coming from an empty field could be heard. this occurred mostly on a Wednesday morning. over the year, many others would hear the crying girl: my father, my other sisters, my grandma, a cousin and an uncle, the new maid, and family friends who slept over. of those in the house, only me and my 1st and 2nd eldest sister were left out (my sisters' room being far from the source, and me sleeping early and like a log, avoiding ever getting to hear it).

as the whole year went on, it became less frequent. from 2-3 times a week, it became once every 1.5 weeks or so. then, it stopped. 6 months later, on January 2000, a week before Kristal-Astro premiered, we moved out of the house to ......... (wait for it)

Close Encounter of a Johnny Kind BY -D-

to start, let's give the guy involved with this story a name..... say, "J". can't remember for the life or me on exactly when this took place, but it was during the whole "Hantu Purdah" fiasco, so, '96-ish? '97?

at around the time, we opened up a simple, small resturant, just a few kilometres from the border. now enter J, the cook. an Iban by blood, J was, what many in the mid-90's would see, an Adonis. tall with a chiseled chin, and cheekbones, a long, silky stoner style hair, muscles that would knock any ladies off their feet, made more prominent with his sets of tight white t-shirts and jeans..... believe me people, i'm trying as hard as i can to sound very heterosexual here. anyway, since we couldn't exactly pay him enough for him to rent an apartment or anything, he slept over at our place.

one day, months after he moved in with us, one of our maids made the clumsy mistake of mistaking J's possessions that he stuffed in a trash bag (not a lot of space to put his stuff since he was sleeping in my room as well), including his passport, as trash and threw it out on the garbage bin outside the gate. that night, after returning from work, and a few heated remarks towards the maid, he went to dig in the bin to get back his belongings, most of which were now soaked in the usual foul smelling liquid you usually get in a garbage bin. having gotten most of his stuffs back except for his passport, he decided to dig in deeper and sink his head in. not long after he did, he felt a quick and sudden pain from his right bicep and quickly jerked his head out of the bin. he looked around: nothing. he looked at his arm: a bluish-black spot, with 2 small parallel cuts, still bleeding. also, in the air was a faint, familiar scent: frangipani. not being a believer of such a thing, he shrugged it off as having stung by a bee, and the smell being his imagination. my mom thought otherwise as the 2 parallel cuts on his arm resembles a cut made by finger nails from being pinched really hard.

a few day after the incident, being a given the day-off the day after, J decided to stay up late and, like me, wait for some boobs to show up on star movies. he was sitting on one of the chairs with a window close to his right, leading directly to the garage. beyond that, after the fence, is the infamous field i mentioned so many times. hours later, at around 3 AM, he was ripe and ready to doze off. too ripe, in fact, he was too lazy make his way to the bedroom, and decided to sleep on the chair instead. awhile after closing his eyes, he caught a good, strong whiff of frangipani up his nose, and the moment he realises this, he felt a quick and sudden pain on his right bicep, which was facing the window, at exactly the same spot as the first incident. it was the exact same cut as last time, only deeper now, and the bluish-black spot now very swollen.

my mom commented later that day how "it" must've thought how cute J was.

" Ruh-roh,Raggy!!! " BY -D-

...or would "Rooby-Rooby-Roo" been better? well, whatever. when i mentioned on starting it off weak the last time i contributed, i guess i should have sent this...

1994. well over a year after we moved into our home in Sg. Akar. Dad had just expanded the parking area by putting concrete on top of our front lawn, and erect a spacious garage, the zinc roof reaching just outside the windows leading to my sisters' room and mine. just as my sister would often sneak in and out of the house via this roof, my sis's favourite cat at the time also tends to just sit there in front of her window whenever it wants in... which can be creepy at night when you just suddenly open the curtain and a pair of large, glowing eyes stare back at you, begging you to open the window.

one night, way past 3 AM, my sister, who's bed was next to the window, was woken up by a noise from the roof. thinking it was her cat, she stood up to peek out the window, 'til she realises it was already asleep at her lap. the noise, which sounded like light footsteps made by an animal, still went on, and thinking it was another cat, she peeked out anyway. her sight was still blurry from just having woken up, but the clear night sky made it all more.... clear (redundancy; the sleepier you are, the lazier you get with your vocab) what was on the roof was too big to be a cat. it was a dog.

despite knowing this, with her eyes still blurry, she didn't get a clear look at the dog's head, thinking it's head was bowing down, smelling the roof, it's tail towards her. but as her eyes adjusted to the darkness, she came to a terrifying realisation: it was headless. not long after she had a good view of the headless, dog-like figure, it jumped off the roof into the grass field. weeks later, she heard the same noise from the roof again. her cat, who was awake this time, kept hissing at window as this went on. the hissing stopped just as the noise itself stopped. and that was the last she heard of it.

can't help but say it's kinda reminiscent to an English lore; The Black Dog, a.k.a Barghest a.k.a Baskervilles Hounds.

Whoop-PISH!!! BY -D-

let's start with something a bit weaker for my (temporary?) comeback; you know how, after it rains, frogs start croaking like crazy, and some of these croaks don't sound like the others, to the point it sounds something that was made by a person... or so it seems?

yeah. again, this story has nothing to do with that. Focus, people.

first, let me tell you a bit about the 3rd house i lived in, prior to my current home. a couple of years after moving in, dad decided to renovate and make an extension of the house. this extension uses up the whole back lawn, resulting in: a larger kitchen, a proper store room and a maid's room, the last two accessible only by going outside. these extensions also resulted in a small alley, if you will, with no door or gate, later used as our outside laundry area. this alley is located just behind the walls of the guest toilet.

second, let me tell you about a demonstration from the people from Jerudong Prison in 97/98, around a month before the incident: the school has called the people from JP in to show us a demonstration of whipping someone in the arse, for the sole purpose of deterring us from becoming criminals. had a front row seat to it all, and the sound the whip makes etched into my ears VERY well.

now, onto the night of the incident, and in a case so rare in my stories, i'm involved in it: i remember it being on the night before Friday.... or Sunday. i was in the living room, watching Star Movies with the trusty Decoder late at night, eyes totally fixed to the tv screen, awaiting the moment a sex scene comes out (13, and hormones a ragin'),or in a lesser case, boobs.... tits..... hooters.... jugs.... love pillows... look, i have a ton of these, and i'm not afraid to use em' like an immature 13 year old, in alphabetical order. anyway, there i was, sittin' too close to the tv, fingers ready to change the channel in case someone comes up, when suddenly, i heard a noise.

at first, i thought the fan was acting up, but it came from another direction: the guest toilet. the sound was eerily familiar yet, rarely heard. my first thoughts of it was that it sounded quite similar to a wet cloth being slammed down on concrete as someone washes it. however, when the maids do the laundry (behind the wall of the guest toilet), they never made such a sound. then another thought crossed my mind: my brother and his wife's room was next to the toilet. they were probably doing something kinky, and thus, i ignored it and focused on the granter of my early teen desires: crappy 80's/90's B-Movies promising some skin.

a few minutes later, the sound was still there, still going at it's somewhat clockwork pace. something at the back of my mind told me "this is clearly not my brother and his missus going at it". then, anxiety kicks in. as i froze there, sitting on the floor, the noise kept going on non-stop. curiousity got the best of me, and after mustering up a bit of courage, i slowly headed to the toilet, and slowly opened the door: nothing. but the sound was definitely coming from behind the walls, from the laundry area. i stood there for awhile, staring at the wall, confirming it did not come from another direction, when i then realized it; the sound, that went "Whoop-PISH!Whoop-PISH!Whoop-PISH!..", was too sharp and too solid to have come from a cloth. it was the familiar sound of a whip being swung. only difference from the demonstration was the sound of the impact: unlike leather, the sound was more dampened. as if it was swung at flesh. from there, i did not wanna know how the sound of a whip hitting flesh was being made from outside, late at night, past 1 AM. hence i did the usual: went to my room and sleep, the sound echoed through my ears.

now, you're still probably thinking "HAW! maybe the maid really was doing some late night laundry!". did i mention that everyone, including the maids, except for me, my brother and his wife, and my little sisters, were over at my grandparent's place preparing for my uncle's wedding? no? now you know. and when i mentioned this to the maids months later, they confirmed hearing it from time to time. even the neighbours next door, who they spoke with sometimes, can hear a faint echo of it from their place.

Knock, Knock.. ? BY -D-

you know the sound a cloth makes as it gets dragged along wet concrete just outside your living room window during a rainy night.... ?

yeah. this story isn't about that.

let's move onto the next house i lived in, located in sungai akar from '93 to 2000. one thing this place has in common with our current home is, if you're facing the main entrance, to your left, beyond the fence, is a large grass field, with some tall trees spread out here and there sporadically. and like our current place, it seems to be inhabited by, from what we know of, the ghost of a little girl.... more on that story later. since i've been going on a with a cat theme a bit, let's continue with that.

way back then, we had a lot fewer cats, 5-6 if my count is right. and due to that, we didn't bother locking them up in a cage every night, like we do now, so they're pretty free to roam about around the house. this, from time to time, leads to these cats banging on the door as they play just in front of it or play with our shoes/slippers and knock it against the doors, fooling us to believe someone's outside most of the time. this inspired my older sis to play a prank on us; at night, she'd usually knock on the door from the outside and quickly hide behind the concrete flower bed right in front of the entrance. peeking out of the living room window that looks out to the entrance pretty much destroys the prank.

during our later years there, the cat population had increased, and they were making quite a mess around the house at night. because of this, decided to build a cage to lock them up at night. one night, at around 10, as me and my little sis were watching something on tv in the living room, we heard a knock coming from the front door. the amah was busy cleaning things up in the kitchen, and everyone else, including my older sis, was upstairs. looking out the window, i saw no one and no cats messing about. thinking it was just my imagination, i shrugged it off. as soon as i sat back down, another knock came, followed with another one. these were the kind of solid knocks no cats would have made by throwing around a shoe at the door. my sister went to open the door, while i sat on my chair watching from behind her to see who it was; no one. freaked out, we went upstairs and went to sleep.

a while later, around the same time, it happened again, this time, i was alone. all the cats were locked up (i helped. our neighbour had dogs), everyone except for me were upstairs and the amah were cleaning up. peeking out the window, i saw nothing. taking a few steps away from the window, another knock came. before i could reach the window, the knocks turned into repeated banging on the door. the banging was so hard, it knocked down this wooden carving of the Al-Fatihah that we hanged on top of the entrance. when the wooden carving fell, the banging immediately stopped....

and that was the last time we ever heard of it...

What's new, Pussycat? WHOA~~ BY -D-

now, for most of my stories, it's always about a friend of a friend, a personal friend, a family member or any other of their acquaintances experiencing the work of the supernatural. me? only faced it twice, despite the fact that we usually live in haunted areas and i stay up late a lot. this is one of em'.

we, over at my place, have a lot of cats, currently clocking in at 16-17 of em'. top score was 24. then i squashed them whenever i try to get the car out...... i'm kidding. that was the neighbours (and their dogs) doing. 24 is a lot, but nothing compared to what i saw that one raya night in '01/'02..... considering "they" were really there. this took place in Salambigar, at around 9 pm. we had just visited a dear friend of my dad, a pretty rich guy, whose house was pretty deep in a simpang, was about to make our way home. in the car, i was sitting right behind my mom, who was on the passenger seat. and as many passengers are wont (not a typo. look it up) to do when they're not occupied with anything else as they await to reach their destination, i looked out of the window to my left.

not far after driving out of the gate, we passed this small house, located at the corner of a junction. it was a small bungalow, with a glass slide main entrance, no fences and a front yard littered with gravel. i assumed the occupants were out at the time, as the lights were out, though they could have at least closed the curtains since i could see their living room furniture from the main entrance. anyway, what really caught my attention to that house that night were the dozens of cats littered around the place; on the front porch, all over the gravel front yard, and a few on the roof. there could have at least 40 of them in that property at the time, all staring at the car as it passed by with their eyes, glowing creepily in the dark. trust me, glowing cat's eyes don't freak me out, but for some reason, that many in such a space that night made the hair behind my neck nearly stood up... and it really stood up shortly after i exclaimed "Wow, that's a lot of cats!" (also: cue obscure reference to Stephen King's Pet Sematary)

it caught the interest of my mother, a cat lover, so she asked "where?" an i replied "this house we're just passing". everyone in the car gave me this confused look, and my older sis, who was sitting next to me told me she didn't see any, and to clarify this, she was also looking out of the same window as i did. at this point, we had already passed the house, and i turned around to confirm what i have seen. unfortunately, a fence from the house next to it blocked the view. i found the scene to be too hard to have been missed by anyone in car at all considering that many eyes glowing so brightly.

around a month later, my dad asked me to go visit his friend that we went to the month before with our driver to pick up something. when i passed that house again, now in broad daylight, i noticed how the house was completely empty, with no signs of furniture at all. when i asked my dad's friend what had happened that night, he gave me the same look everyone in the car did, and told me nobody has moved in there for quite a long time..... thinking back, the furniture i saw, as fancy as they were, did look old fashioned, like something from the 70's/80's....

Nostalgic Horror trip BY -D-

Been sleeping quite early as of late, explaining the lack of my contribution to this site (i write these stories late at night to get me to sleep, which may also explain the vocabs and grammar mistakes)

still taking place at the same old house, as i mentioned, the whole ground floor, the parking area, consisted of only one room meant to be a storage space. but since there was already a store room elsewhere, this was made into my brother's room. having to deal with a broken air conditioner one night, he opened up the windows (which were facing the driveways) to cool the room down (these are the kinda small windows that you usually see in a bathroom). late that night, he was woken up suddenly when he started to smell a sweet flowery fragrance coming from somewhere.

now onto a different night; if you've remembered, the ground floor has an extension leading to a small building made up of only 3 rooms, one of which was the maid's room. the window to her room looked out to the huge back lawn we had. further ahead, beyond the fence, was the driveway. one night (she sleeps very late, thanks to mom), as she was about to close the window curtains and go to sleep, she saw a slender white figure walking on the middle of the driveway, heading towards one of the neighbour's house.

they say cats (and based on some chinese urban legends i heard; dogs and horses), can see things we normally can't. like many bruneian families, we have pet cats. my older sister, particularly was an avid cat lover. back then, we were only allowed to keep a few (dad used to hate em'), but one was really special to my sis, she let it sleep with her in our room (she, my other sis, and me shared one big room). on one night, she was waken by the sudden sounds of scuttling on the floor. i was in my parent's room at the time (manja, nyamu~), while my other sis, sleeps like a log. as it turns out, it was the sound of her cat running around in circles, in the middle of the room, chasing the fan. this would have been an amusing scene, if not for a) it was late at night b)it has never done this before, nor did it do it again later on (nothing was attached to the fan) and c)it chased the fan for a long period of time, and everytime it stopped, it hissed and growled at the fan. after looking at this scene for God knows how long, my sis started to feel uncomfortable with it and recited the Al-Fatihah. as soon as she did, the cat made a detour straight into the door leading out, clawing the small gap under the door.

well, thats about the only stories i know on this house. y'know, speaking of cats.....

A Nostalgic Horror Trip ver.2.0 BY -D-

This one takes place at the same home as in part 1. as wether it took place before or after part 1, i'm not quite sure (it has been SOOOO long ago...).

i remember it was during the more warmer seasons, where despite getting close to Maghrib, the sky was still bright and clear. around that time, as i was about to finish taking a shower, i heard a car coming in from below, followed with some unfamiliar voices. being the curious little boy that i was, i quickly dressed up and asked my maid who it was.

apparently, my brother had came home along with some friends, of which 2 of em' were girls. now, being the cute little busybody that i was (and i still am, aside from the "little" and "busybody" aspect), i decided to go down and be a show and try to blend in somehow. unfortunately, my maid wouldn't allow me till i dry my hair properly. once that task was over with, i head on to the back door where my slippers were. just as i was about to reach for the door knob, the door just quickly swung open and hit me in the head, followed with my brother and his friends rushing in, in a panic, where one of the girls fell to the floor, crying, and covering her place. it was a duet of cries, as i joined in on the action as well (lets see you try hitting a 6-7 year old on the head hard without making him cry).

as the story turns out, when my brother and his friends got home, one of them expressed a bit of interest on the forest "gate" that i mentioned in part 1. after a few words, they decided to venture into the forest a bit. a few hundred metres in, they were greeted with the sound of rustling in the trees, which wasn't at all that strange seeing as how monkeys occupied the place. one of the girls, the one who cried a duet with me, decided to just look up and have a quick look at these monkeys. while she did saw them, she also had a clear view of a very unfamiliar creature; it had the figure of an adult human, except it's body was completely covered in fur, and the smiling face of an old man (of which she described years later when i first heard the story, something like the Cheshire's Cat smile from Disney's Alice in Wonderland), with pointy ears, on one of the trees. and before you start, she knows what a chimp looks like, and this was definitely no chimp...

so, she screamed and ran off. my brother and the others looked at the direction she was looking at when she screamed and saw a huge black figure, too big to be any monkey, jumped out of their sight an into the thick bushes of leaves above. whatever it was, they had no intention of taking a good look of what it was, and rushed back to the house.

for a few nights since then, my brother slept over in the living room, whereas the girl didn't sleep for 2 days till she consulted an imam, while the bump on my head healed in less than a week.

A Nostalgic Horror Trip Ver.1.0 BY -D-

among the 4 houses i ever lived, my most favorite has to be the second one i moved into from 87' to 92'.

located in Berakas Garrison (Papa was a soldier), it was one of those houses, like the houses in some Government Residential areas (not sure if it's considered a "stilt" house), where the actual house is on the first floor whereas the ground floor is where you park the car, and a single room, meant as a storage space but used as my brother's room back then. nearby, there's a small separate building, made up of 3 rooms: one was the maid's, another was a store room, while the other was a washing area. then, there's my all time favourite: the huge, wide, grass lawn. i'm not exaggerating (sp?), it could fit in 7-9 tents there.

*sigh* oh, i still remember how cool and comfy the wooden floors were as i slept on it whenever it rains, endlessly running through the HUGE lawn as i try to get my kite to fly up or just running around chasing the cats, or riding on my bike on the road as i try to catch up with my older sis, or when i messed up the store room as i rummaged through one of the boxes to play with some old toys... oh, yeah, the ghost story... forgive the nostalgia trip there...

anyway, the main entrance to the house was a large sliding window, with only a thin, transparent curtain to block the view inside. outside was a veranda, used usually to just lounge around, and the stairs leading down. around 50 metres at the bottom of the stairs, just right in front of the main entrance in plain view, was a broken fence followed with an "entrance", a "gate" if you will, leading into a forest.

theres just no other way to describe this forest entrance other than like a gate; to the sides were rows of tall, sturdy trees. between them, a wide gap in the middle, with a lone tree stump, dead centre, with a log lying next to it. the area around and ahead of the tree stump were littered with tall shrubs, bushes, small trees and vines. i guess, kinda like a cave mouth, instead it's made of flora, and it leads into a forest, rather than a cave.

one day, my mother heard a disturbing rumour at her work place about how there's been some break-in's in our area. naturally, that night at 1 AM (she's a late sleeper, but an early riser), after everyone has already gone to bed, she decided to check all the windows and the backdoor before she calls it a day. she made one last check at the main entrance, when she saw, through the curtains, what seems like a figure on the mouth of the forest entrance.

curiousity got the best of her, so she peeked through the gap between the curtains. there, near the tree stump at the forests "gate", stood a woman clad in white, with her back to my mother. my mother quickly ran back into her room, resisting as hard as she could from screaming and grabbing "her" attention (not that it matters seeing how the loud footsteps she made as she ran on the wooden floor woke everyone but me, my brother and the maid up). my sisters tried to calm my mother, a crying mess at the time, while my dad went to take a look at the "figure".

as you'd would expect, it wasn't there....

Roadside Terror Part 2.5 BY -D-

Returning from a late night rendezvous with his girlfriend, a cousin of mine decided to take the longer route home through Jalan Muara. it was a cool, full moon night, and he was in a good mood so he wanted to enjoy the view a bit as he drove.

as he passed the junction leading to Mentiri and towards Tanah Jambu, he had to drive up a rather steep, curvy hill. as he reached the top and was about to drive downhill, he got himself a good clear view of the moon, and stared to admire it for a moment. at the bottom of the hill, at the time, there was a tall lone tree to his left, and a forest to his right (with some construction work in the area).

as he was about to reach the bottom of the hill, he saw something, a figure, flying off the top of the tree to his left, flew across the moon he was admiring (ala' E.T), and into one of the trees on the other side of the road. while he didn't get a proper, detailed look at the figure, he nevertheless had a good look at it as it flew across the moon. it was too big to be a bat or any other sort of flying animal he knew of. and as agile as they are, a monkey couldn't have jump that far, and he was pretty sure it flew across the road. it didn't have wings, but rather, it seemed like it was covered in ragged cloth, and it had the distinct size and silhouette of a person. either way, it was a sure killjoy to his good mood that night.

oh, and by the way; the area where he saw the figure? i'm currently living near it. more stories on that later.

Roadside Terror Part Deux BY -D-

not far from the traffic light junction connecting the road leading to KB, Muara and Berakas Garrison, considering you are heading towards KB, you can see a chinese cemetery to your left, just behind a small hill not far from the road....

the early nineties. way before we familiarise with the decoder, and we only had 3 basic TV channels, all offering little to nothing past 12 midnight at the time. a time when the internet had yet to appear in Brunei, when only a few shops open past 12, offering little to those who stay up past that time and who are in the mood to go out. among one late night past times that i'm aware of during those times were basically late night speeding...

such was the case for my older brother, with the vigor of youth and a newly acquired driving license in his hands. he and a bunch of friends would carpool in 2 or 3 cars and speed their way through the stretch of road connecting Muara and KB. in this one particular night of which the story takes place, they only had 2 cars at the time, and not so many people to carry around. most of them rode on my brother's car, while the other one only had it's driver...

my brother was taking the lead, despite carrying 3 extra weights with him, while the other car was not far behind, as their engines roared through the road, passing a red light, and eventually, the cemetery mentioned earlier. not a kilometre after the cemetery, a friend of my brother who rode at the back asked him to turn around. as it turned out, the car behind them had swayed out of the road and into the guard rails.

it wasn't a really big accident, just a huge, long scratch on the left side of the car due to it's contact with the rail. the driver, however was in a severe case of shock; pale, sweating, trembling, and completely speechless. my brother and the others found it pathetic to worry that much over such a small incident and laughed a bit at the driver. the next day, the driver, his friend, fell ill for 2 whole weeks, never spoke a word till he got better.

2 weeks later, as my brother came to visit him, one of the first sentence he spoke to my brother was: "Banar inda kau nampak malam atu kah?"

"nampak apa...?" my brother replied. as it turned out, when they were speeding past the cemetery, his friend driving the other car, saw something dangling on top of one of the tall street lights ahead. when he got a closer look at it, it was a decapitated foot, tied to a piece of cloth, and left to hang on the lamp. after that, he blacked out for bit, and when he came into, his car was already rubbing against the rails.

moral of the story; i don't give a damn if you've got some pimped out engine, or a kick ass stereo on your car, for f*** sake, some people have jobs and are trying to sleep, goddammit!!!

Roadside Terror BY -D-

in one of the "scary Bruneian places week" posts, one of them was credited to me, which came from an old thread in a forum years back. as you may have noticed, there's a big lack of details there, since the thread asked for places, rather than the the story. that, or i was in a rushed or something. well, here's the full story;

i don't exactly know the name of the stretch of road this takes place, but it basically leads from Mentiri to Bandar, passing the new RTB building in Subok as well as the immigration building. now from Mentiri, before passing the RTB building, there's a downhill slope, where once you reach bottom, to your left is what seems to be a small place to park a good number of cars, followed with a slight uphill slope. there's actually a small waterfall there, along with a track leading deeper to the forest. i've seen a lot of people go hiking there. and i've heard just as much people telling me the area there is a Wasai.

this took place in 2002 if i'm not mistaken. it's been less than a year after my eldest sister had gotten married to, in my opinion, the most disgustingly annoying, loud S.O.B i've ever met. i hate him (only time i can tolerate him is when he's in a bad/tired mood, or when he shuts up). not having a house of their own yet, they lived over at my place. unfortunately for me, their room was right next door to mine (yeah, wedding night jokes and all that).

there was this one time, that year, i had trouble sleeping. while i was already used to my brother in law's snoring, for the whole week after my sis got back from a trip to Singapore, he's been groaning and moaning in the dead of night. anyone would assume they were having a "session", but the fact he had a fever and he seems to scream just before he stops all the moaning fortunately, suggested otherwise.

apparently, on the night my sis got back from Singapore (it was a late night flight), she and the hubby, who was driving, decided to use the stretch of road i mentioned earlier, right after 12 midnite, heading to Mentiri, as a shortcut after they stopped by elsewhere. the street lamps weren't working at the time, so they turned their headlights on high. as they drove down the hill, getting closer to the waterfall area, my sis noticed the car was slowing down, till it reached a snail-like speed. she asked the hubby what was wrong. "I don't know", he stuttered, as cold sweats started forming, "my feet feels really heavy right now".

just as they reached the bottom of the slope and about to drive uphill, from the edge of the area their headlights were shining on, they saw the figure of a lady in white, floating, crossing the road, right in front of them. they didn't get a really god view of the face, however, they were sure she was looking their way as she crossed the road. once on the other side, she just stood there, near the guard rails, staring at the car as they slowly passed by. both my sis's and her hubby's only choice was to look ahead and ignore her.

it wasn't till they reached the next traffic light, the hubby started reading verses from the Quran, while my sis tried to change the radio station.

Something Fresh BY -D-

here's one right off the oven. happened last month when the school holiday started...

if you've read my story about the noisy tile, it takes place in the same area. if you're too lazy to search; at my place, there's an extension at the back my dad and the family made years ago. it's basically an outside cooking area with a tiled floor and a simple zinc roof with a single small wall where we cook. also to note is the neighbour next door who just moved in around last year. like us, they made a few modifications to their place. one of em' is basically a complete mirror to our cooking area; just right next to our cooking area, they made an outside store/laundry area with a zinc roof. only difference is that their roof is a tad bit lower than ours. they then followed it up by constructing a concrete wall, a bit lower than their roof and really close to said area, around their place.

anyway; it was around 2.30 AM, saturday morning. woke up suddenly cuz my tummy kept telling me to go "drop a deuce" (a.k.a "pinch a loaf" a.k.a "nature calls" a.k.a beria). with the exception of me, my older sis, the maid and the gardener, everyone else was in Miri at the time.

as i was about to make my way to the toilet, i could hear some cats hissing outside, of which i assumed a fight was about to start. after dropping off a couple at the toilet, i could hear the neighbour's back door opening (which leads to their laundry area), and not long after that, a loud and quick screeching. at the time, i assumed the screech came from one of the cats as my neighbour tried to stop the fight. it wasn't till around 2 weeks ago i found out what really happened.

a few days after that night, a man knowledgable in the supernatural came to our house to "purify" our place (i was out at the time of his visit). his reason; during the night i mentioned earlier, my neighbour's wife had forgotten to bring in the clean laundry earlier that day. as she went out to the laundry area, she gave out a quick loud screech and quickly went back into the house.

what did she see that scared the life out of her? a set of greenish/grayish rotting feet standing, perching if you will, on top of the concrete wall they erected, toes pointing to their house, with the rest of the body being completely blocked by the zinc roof above their laundry area.
